Icons

I enjoy paging through magazines/the Net and spotting iconic images that could be used in jewellery. This applies particularly to the Perspex Range, the variety of colours available may be used to capture the mood of an icon.

Sculpted form:
The 'sandwich technique' (ie layering of metal sheet to acrylic sheet so as to create dimension) creates a block from which to 'sculpt' .. by this I mean I can apply my handsaw and files to affect the shape of the piece as one would in clay/ wood and other sculptural medium. Obviously the more layers lamented together, the more 3-dimensional the piece may become. Pacman below is an example of a more flat form, while honeybee is more round and fuller in body.

ICON: "Resembling or analogous to the thing it represents"
Collins Dictionary 1986 Williams Collins & Sons ISBN000433140-0

ICON: "A representation"
on the Colour Yellow:
"Hope and Happiness: Yellow is sunshine. It is a warm color that, like red, has conflicting symbolism. On the one hand it denotes happiness and joy but on the other hand yellow is the color of cowardice. Nature of Yellow: Yellow is one of the warm colors. Because of the high visibility of bright yellow, it is often used for hazard signs and some emergency vehicles. Yellow is ('considered') cheerful." (ref below)
